Yoga Mudra Aasana
Perform Padma Aasana,the Lotus posture or sukha Aasana.Take both arms behind your back and catch your left wrist with your right hand. Bend forward until your head is touching the ground.
This is the Yoga Mudra Aasana. If you can not touch the floor, go as far as it is comfortable without any strain. In the final position relax the whole body,especially the shoulders and the back in the position,you may breath deeply and slowly. Try to maintain the position for few minutes.Slowly return to the starting position. Inhale while returning to the staring pose.
If you are not able to maintain the final position for long,then one may do the process few times.
The Pranava Om is intoned with concentration at the top of the head or the point where the head touches ground Yoga Mudra has the ability to stimulate all the chakras at the same time and hence gets the name Yoga Mudra,the gesture of the union. All of the Bija Mantras may be chanted one after another. While in the Yoga Mudra the Bijas can be visualized mentally,while the breath is being drawn inwards, and expressed audibly on the outgoing breath. Or the Bijas may be silently rotated within the "mind's eye", which should be centered into each of the attention centers of the appropriate chakras.
In South India ,many exponents of Yoga,Tantra and Shaiva Siddhantha use the Mantra "OM NAMA SHIVAYA" in the place of the Bijas. OM is concentrated into the Mooladhara, NA into Swadhisthana, MA into Manipura, SHI into Anahata,VA into Vishuddha,YA into Ajana and SWAH is used for the higher chakras represented by the Sahasra.
